The Bhagavad Gita: Timeless Wisdom for Project Management

“Success is a Journey not a Destination”

Karma – Individual User Stories that are assigned to project team in an Epic.

Phal(Fruit of work) – Is the Measurable Busines Outcomes

A comprehensive project or epic should be broken down into small user stories (Karma) that are then combined into sprints (milestones).

Project Team

Wisdom :-

  • Every individual contribution (Karma) is significant.
  • Each individual has the ability to control his User Stories (Karma).
  • Your best effort should be put into completing the User Stories (Karma).
  • The User Story (Karma) that was completed must be validated and unit tested against the Acceptance Criteria and the Definition of Done.
  • The members of a team who work without selfishness, cooperate with each other and assist one another can achieve mutual success in their project.
  • Detach yourself from the End Rewards and focus on the work.
  • Focus on being productive instead of busy.
  • We can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.
  • Celebrate each other success.

Project Manager

  • Establish a clear understanding of what you wish to accomplish per Sprint and remain focused on meeting those goals.
  • Celebrate each Sprint’s success and reflect on what can be improved at each Sprint Review.
  • Rather than just celebrating the completion of a task, highlight the positive outcomes it yields.
  • Be sure to recognize and celebrate the small wins of the team which will inspire them to achieve the big goals.
  • Make sure the Project Team asks why it is doing what it is doing and what purpose it serves in the bigger picture without focusing on the end results and rewards that the Bigger Picture represents.
  • Insure that all team members understand their contributions are aligned with the Phal(Measurable Business Outcomes(
  • Stay focused on the big picture but do not get sidetracked by unnecessary details.
  • Project Status report should describes the progress of a project within a specific time period (Karma) and compares it against the Measurable business Outcomes(Phal)
