When information is available at your fingertips and AI is taking over and giving us answers, talking about human conversation seems cliche.

Recently, I have been studying a theory developed by Stuart Kauffman known as “The Adjacent Possible”.

The theory resonated with me as I read it and I began to explore.

Given theory may lead to successful and fruitful conversations if applied correctly.

Human conversation involve choices. We decide whether to approach others with curiosity or caution, openness or fear.

Conversation if it is done in a right way with another human being creates new possibilities.

It’s like exploring a house with many doors each door you open leads to new rooms and each new doors, creating more potential for future discoveries. 

This is where The Adjacent Possible fits in Human Conversation.

Adjacent possible refers to the range of response or direction a conversations can take .Each statement uttered create new possibilities.

So are you excited enough to implement “adjacent possible” in your daily conversation.

Adjacent possible for self :-

• Examine whether daily conversation opens up new doors, inspires curiosity, and facilitates the sharing of new ideas.
• Be selective about your conversations.
• Join communities based on your interest, hobbies, profession , this will lead more conversation and forums for sharing thoughts .
• It’s not that the network itself is smart; it’s that the individuals get smarter because they’re connected to the network.
• Develop good hobbies and join communities based on those hobbies. This will keep your interest and momentum going and help you to create great conversations.
  • Biker clubs
  • Toastmaster clubs .
• Contact with people having diverse interests and viewpoints.

Have curiosity towards current world and humility to accept that you don’t have answers to all question’s.

Adjacent possible for Team or Group:-

• Any discussion should be opened up with a question, dialogue or story, it will help to create better conversations.
• Team should be facilitated to explore adjacent possibilities, They should move to new avenues for ideas, solutions, and suggestions.
• Teams must be able to trust that they are part of decision making.
• Open communication will result in fresh ideas and thoughts .
• The idea should be collaborative co-creation .

So are you ready to open new door of possibilities, Let’s do one door at a time
